The Catholic University of Ghana has once again demonstrated its sporting excellence by emerging as the overall champions of the 2026 Private Universities Students' Association of Ghana (PUSAG) Games 2026, securing the coveted title for the third consecutive time.

Hosted by Heritage Christian University at its Amasaman campus in Accra, this year's games brought together nine private Universities from across the country.

Participating institutions included the Catholic University of Ghana, Heritage Christian University, Garden City University, Central University, Wisconsin International University College, Nduom University, Regent University College of Science and Technology, Pentecost University and Presbyterian University.

The Catholic University of Ghana competed in all sporting disciplines, including men's and women's football, volleyball, basketball, and table tennis. The University's remarkable performance earned it three gold trophies, two silver medals and two bronze medals, placing it at the top of the medals table and reaffirming its dominance in private University sports.

In a brief ceremony to present the trophies and medals to the University's Management, the sports contingent, led by Sports Coordinator Mr. Haruna Adomako Barfi Francis, together with the Dean of Students, Rev. Fr. Charles Bruno Kabir, staff members, and past and present SRC executives, officially handed over the laurels to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Matthew Glover Addo.

Addressing the gathering, Professor Glover Addo commended the athletes, coaches, sports coordinators and all members of the contingent for their commitment, discipline and outstanding performance, describing the achievement as a testament to the University's growing reputation in sports.

The Vice-Chancellor reiterated the University's commitment to strengthening sports development, announcing that Management has earmarked GH¢300,000 for the renovation of the institution's three-in-one sports court and the enhancement of other sporting facilities. He disclosed that discussions have already been held with the Director of Works and the Sports Coordinator to commence the planned upgrades.

Professor Glover Addo noted that although the University receives no external funding for sporting activities and depends largely on internally generated funds from tuition fees, management remains committed to investing in sports. He also encouraged the Students' Representative Council to make adequate budgetary allocations for sports in its annual financial plans.

The latest triumph marks yet another historic milestone for the Catholic University of Ghana, reinforcing its status as a formidable force in University sports and highlighting its unwavering commitment to nurturing excellence both in academics and athletics.

The CUG team captain is handed one of the university's three hard-earned trophies.

The Vice-Chancellor (Prof. Matthew Glover Addo) and the University Registrar (Mr. Kaba Emmanuel) join in as Team CUG celebrate their historic achievement.
