National Development Conference Addresses Moral Vision and Unity: Insights from the Catholic University of Ghana, Fiapre Delegation

The Catholic University of Ghana, Fiapre was invited to the maiden National Development Conference organized by the Church of Pentecost on the theme “Moral Vision And National Development.” at the Pentecost Convention Centre, Gomoa Fetteh. Present at the opening ceremony was the Vice President, H. E Alhaji Dr. Bawumia, who represented President H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker, Parliament of Ghana; Her Ladyship Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, Chief Justice, Republic of Ghana; H. E John Agyekum Kufuor, H. E John Dramani Mahama, both former Presidents, Republic of Ghana and Apostle Eric Nyamekye, Chairman, The Church of Pentecost. Others were the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori Attah; the Majority Leader, Kyei Mensah Bonsu; the General Secretary of NDC, Fifii Kwatey; and representatives from Universities and political parties. In all, about two thousand participants attended the two-day conference

Some of the topics discussed were Moral Vision and National Development by Prof. Delanyo Adadevoh; Leadership and Human Flourishing: Making A Case for Social Justice and Nation Building in Ghana Today by Rev. Prof. Johnson Asamoah-Gyadu; Righteousness, Wisdom, and Development by Apostle Eric Nyamkye; Building Public Support Towards Mobilising Resources Domestically for Development by Dr. Maxwell Afari, Deputy Governor Bank of Ghana; Raising Effective Politicians for Africa by Dr. Olivia N. Muchena; Integrity in Nation Building by Apostle N. Y. Kumi-Larbi; Moral Vision and National Development: The Role of the Media by Hon. Mrs. Gifty Affenyi Dadzie; Religion, Morality and Development by Sheik Aremeyaw Shaibu and Patriotism and National Development by Rev. Dr. Opuni Frimpong.

Mr. Stephen Nanyele and Madam Larissa Agbemelo-Tsomafo represented CUG. They commented that the conference was very useful and contributed to national unity. The group's discussions in particular yielded results and a communique was issued for national discussion with the hope of inculcating morality into the citizens, particularly, political leaders and the youth. They also proposed that CUG should start dreaming and putting together a theme for a national conference shortly to make an impact at the national level.
