The Management of Fiapre Health Centre has honoured the Level 300 students of the School of Nursing
and Midwifery (SONAM), Catholic University of Ghana, for their remarkable contribution to healthcare
delivery through the renovation of the facility’s adolescent corner.
At a brief ceremony, the Physician In Charge of the Health Centre, Madam Patience Anima Agyei,
presented a citation of honour to the students in recognition of their initiative and commitment to
community service.
The citation was received on behalf of the students by the Acting Dean of SONAM, Dr. Mathias Asaarik,
accompanied by staff and students of the school.
Presenting the citation, Madam Agyei described the students’ gesture as timely and impactful, noting that it
has greatly improved the environment for adolescent healthcare services.
“The gesture shown by SONAM is highly commendable. It reflects a deep sense of responsibility and
commitment to community health. As the saying goes, Oliver Twist always asks for more—we look
forward to continued collaboration,” she stated.
She was joined by key members of the facility’s management team, including Nurse Manager Diana
Fordjour Agyemang, Senior Medical Officer (Public Health) Patience Ankomah, Human Resource
Manager Selassie Nutsuakor, Public Health Nurse Linda Akosua Agyeiwaa, and Pharmacy In-Charge
Asante Offei Dominic.
Receiving the honour, Dr. Mathias Asaarik expressed gratitude for the recognition and emphasized that the
project aligns with SONAM’s core mandate of community engagement and practical learning.
“As part of our community service, we identified that the adolescent corner of Fiapre Health Centre was in
a deplorable state and required urgent attention. Through contributions from students and support from
loved ones, we were able to undertake this renovation as part of our health promotion project,” he
explained.
Dr. Asaarik further commended the management of the Health Centre for acknowledging the students’
efforts.
The renovation of the adolescent corner is expected to enhance the delivery of youth-friendly health
services, providing a more welcoming and functional space for adolescents seeking care at the facility.
The initiative highlights the growing role of student-led interventions in strengthening community
healthcare systems while fostering practical training and social responsibility among future health
professionals.
