ARCHBISHOP OF ROTTENBURG-STUTTGART CELEBRATES MASS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AT CUCG

Most Rev. Gebhardfuerst, Archbishop of Rottenburg-Stuttgart, has called on all Christians, especially, students to take delight in caring for one another by reaching out to the poor, needy, vulnerable and incapacitated peoples in society. Jesus Christ has called us and commissioned us to showcase these qualities as He himself exhibited. The Archbishop noted that the world today is a global village while barriers of communication are virtually broken paving the way for the gospel of Christ to reach every nuke and cranny of the globe. Despite this access, other individuals and groups are vigorously trying to build blocks to create divisions among the people of God.

Archbishop Gebhardfuerst was preaching in a homily during the Holy Spirit Mass of the staff and students of the Catholic University College of Ghana on Friday, 17th February, 2017 on campus at Fiapre-Sunyani. Most Rev. Gebhardfuerst said that as a universal church, the Catholic Church is present everywhere with a firm belief in the oneness of the people of God. He remarked, “Despite all the cultures, norms, philosophies and numerous values, Catholics are a united family as a people of God with common destiny based on spirituality of Jesus Christ as the gospel teaches”.

He encouraged all to recognize that we are nothing when we don’t have Christ Jesus, hence the gospel message, ‘whoever values his life will lose it but whoever spares his life for Christ sakes will gain it’. Archbishop Gebhardfuerst received a warm reception at the University College. He praised staff and students for their dedication and readiness to teach and learn to promote real academic excellence in a serene environment filled with discipline and moral values. The Holy Spirit Mass was concelebrated by Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Bishop of Sunyani Diocese, Most Rev. Peter K. Atuahene, Bishop of Goaso Diocese and other priests of the University College and the Germany delegation.

The Holy Spirit Mass is celebrated to usher the academic, social and religious calendar of the University for the semester. It was well attended by Priests and Religious from the diocese as well as the Staff and students of the University College.
