CUCG Hosts First 2017-2018 Dies National Multiplication Training Workshop

The first of two 2017-2018 Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategy (DIES) National Multiplication Training workshops was hosted by the Catholic University College of Ghana, Fiapre at Sheila's Executive Hotel, Sunyani. The three days training workshop which commenced on the Monday, 18th March, 2018 and ended on Wednesday, 21st March, 2018 had the theme "Senior University Management Training for academics". The programme was sponsored by DIES, National Multiplication Trainings, Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, DAAD and HRK in collaboration with Catholic University College of Ghana, Central University, University of Energy and Natural Resources and University of Ghana.

DIES was jointly developed by DAAD and HRK and operates in the developing countries. It organizes two main programmes, namely training courses and dialogue events. DIES operates in developing countries especially in Africa, Hispanic, South America and South East Asia. DIES collaborates with organizations and is thematic focused. It concentrates on specific themes such as quality assurance and human resource development and the development of skills and competencies to facilitate change. Finally, the programme seeks to improve Higher Education Management

DIES also organizes International Deans Courses in South East Asia, Latin America. DIES has over past ten (10) years trained participants in topics and different areas of expertise. In all, 30 newly elected Deans and Vice Deans have received training in Faculty Management, Financial Management, Quality Assurance, Leadership and Soft Skills Management. From 2005-2015, a total of 7,000 participants have received funding. 5,122 have received skills in Higher Education Management and there have been 32 different events. The ultimate aim of the training workshops was to equip participants with the skills to initiate change process.

  6. Sunyani Technical University
  7. All Nations University
  8. Koforidua Technical University
  9. Valley View University

The Catholic University College of Ghana was represented by Dr. Frank Gyimah Sackey, Mrs Vida Korang and Mr. Vitalis Bawontuo.
During the three days, participants would be taken through topics such as:
  1. University Governance from a Continental Perspective
  2. Trends in University Governance in Ghana
  3. Academic Leadership
  4. Administrative Practices for Middle Level University Managers
  5. Soft Skills in Higher Education Management
  6. People Management
  7. Conflict Management
  8. Capacity Development
  9. Academic Mentoring
  10. Peer Consulting on Conflict Management
    1. The facilitation strategy was learner cantered, discussions, case studies and group work.
      The second workshop of the 2017-2018 DIES National Multiplication Training would take place in August, 2018 at Central University, Accra.
